Have You Caught a Case of Trønderism?

Yes, it’s contagious. No, there’s no vaccine. And yes, I invented the word.

Trønderism: noun (Trøhn-der-izm)

A mysterious condition marked by an unshakable love for wool socks, an accent thicker than a ‘sodd’ stew, and the uncanny ability to say “æ e klar” while being absolutely, 100%, not ready.

Let’s break it down.

You know you’re dealing with Trønderism when you enter a room and someone grunts “mhm” or “mmmm” or “hmmmm” in five different intonations, all of which somehow mean “hello,” “how are you,” “I’m fine,” “why are you talking to me,” and “please leave.” It’s an art form. A lifestyle. A spiritual state.

The Official Symptoms of Trønderism include (but are not limited to):

  • Speaking almost exclusively in vowels, because in Trønderland, consonants are considered optional.
  • Saying “hæ?” even when you heard every word.
  • Wearing shorts in April because the sun almost shined for 4.5 minutes.
  • A stoic poker face in all social situations, including births, deaths, weddings, and Eurovision parties.

You might ask, where does this strange condition come from?

Welcome to the fascinating, foggy, world of Trønderland. A mythical region where weather apps go to die, and people don’t talk so much as mumble in melody. It’s like Iceland met a troll and gave birth to a dialect. There are places in Trøndelag where locals can hold entire conversations without ever moving their lips. No consonants. No verbs. Just vowels and vibes.

As I spent years observing these mysterious beings (and raising some of them), I realized someone had to document the phenomenon. And so, I wrote a book.

Read my new book ‘The Trønders’ to understand, survive, and maybe even fall in love with this enchanting tribe of vowel-wielding wool warriors.

“To truly grasp Trønderism, you must first let go of grammar, comfort, and the need to feel warm. Only then can you æ your way into their hearts.”

So go ahead. Catch the bug.

Have you caught Trønderism?

There’s only one way to find out.

Best,
